Digital Dentistry: What is Intraoral Scanner?

Hello Digital Dentistry

At The Willows Dental Surgery, we are devoted to employing cutting-edge dental technology to provide our patients with faster, more accurate, and pleasant treatment. With that in mind, we introduce the intraoral scanner.

Digital Dentistry

An intraoral scanner is a device used in dentistry that takes comprehensive digital images of the internal structure of a patient’s mouth, including the teeth, gums, and other oral tissues. Digital scans provide high-quality, precise outcomes, giving you natural-looking, comfortable restorations that will last.

During an intraoral dental scan, the scanner takes high-resolution images that are then processed by specially designed software to produce an accurate 3D model of the patient’s teeth and gums. After your scan, your dentist will show you a high-resolution, interactive digital model of your mouth to help you decide on the best course of treatment.

The scanner also works with the clear aligner outcome simulator. You don’t have to imagine what your Invisalign® results will be; with precise dental scans, you can view them right away before you begin treatment.

If you’ve ever had dental “impressions” taken for a crown, you’ll appreciate this modern technique. No more impressions and no more gagging! Instead, the Medit i700 immediately generates a comprehensive digital scan of your mouth. Within minutes, we will have scans that the laboratory may utilise to build replacement teeth, crowns, veneers, inlays/onlays, and other dental restorations.

Some of the key benefits of intraoral scanners include:

  1. Accuracy: Intraoral scanners give accurate digital impressions, lowering the chance of errors.
  2. Comfort: Patients prefer intraoral scanning over conventional impressions because it removes unwieldy trays and messy materials.
  3. Efficient: Digital impressions may be quickly captured.
  4. Improved Communication: Intraoral scanners create digital models that can be readily shared with dental laboratories, experts, and patients, allowing for improved collaboration among dental professionals.
